Registered Psychotherapist (RP), (CCC)
Hello and welcome! My name is Alisha, I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor working in central Alberta. I was drawn to the field of mental health from a young age after being exposed to many different experiences in my own life, and now I am fortunate to get to use my understanding and experiences to help people navigate their own journeys.
I believe that caring for our mental health is just as important as caring for our physical health, however I know that talking to someone about your life while being open and vulnerable can be difficult. I strive to create a safe space for my clients to explore their concerns with compassion and acceptance. I do this using strengths-based and person-centered approach to therapy that is collaborative and trauma informed. Everyone learns and processes differently, so I use a variety of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Internal Family Systems and other evidence-based approaches. Depending on your hopes for therapy, we will develop a plan that is unique to you and may draw from various approaches.
I work with clients to address a range of concerns including:
- Addiction – drug, alcohol, process addictions
- Personality disorders
- Emotion regulation – managing big feelings
- Parenting and family stress
- Communication skills
- Boundary setting
- Self-esteem and self-compassion
- Healthy and unhealthy relationships
- Finding purpose and direction
- Supporting loved ones with mental health needs
- And many more!
Whether you are new to counselling or have experience with therapy, if you are struggling with something specific or want to explore areas for development, or if just want to learn more about therapy or yourself, I encourage you to reach out and see if I might be a good fit for you!
