Emily Smail

 THERAPIST Registered Psychotherapist RP(Q)

Taking the first step in your self-healing journey can be so difficult, but I am so glad that you are here!

Whether you have tried therapy in the past, or this is your first time, I welcome you.

Collaboratively, through a person-centered and strength-based approach, I seek to support and navigate life’s greatest stressors and hurdles with you in a way that meets you where you are at.

Changes in life can cause us to feel distant and disconnected from ourselves, or from our relationships. This can lead to low sex-drive or libido, and poor communication, causing recurring and frequent disagreements. I want to support you in refueling your emotional and sexual intimacy, reigniting your passion, and strengthening your communication, and your overall connection.

I offer a space of non-judgment and seek to meet you with empathy, compassion, and curiosity. I hope to create a space that is safe for you to be vulnerable, to share and express your thoughts and feelings, and for us to navigate and explore with the goal of meeting your therapeutic needs. I work with both couples and individuals from all different walks of life.

I am confident working with low-libidio, changes in relationships, communication, relationship changes, depression, anxiety, trauma, among many other concerns.

Experience: I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I started my educational pursuit at the University of Waterloo with a B.A in Social Development Studies. I spent the entirety of my career devoted to creating a space of inclusion and empowerment for neurodivergent adults. It was my passion to make a larger impact in the lives of others that drove me to pursue my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. Through this experience, I have uncovered an interest and excitement in couples and sex therapy.

Modalities: Emotionally Focused Therapy (Externship), Gottman (Level 1), Internal Family Systems, Attachment Based Approach, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves” ― Henry David Thoreau
