Jonathan Psychotherapy for You

Samantha Umuton
Master of Social Work (M.S.W, R.S.W) -Social Worker/ Psychotherapist

Hi, my name is Samantha, a licensed therapist with a master’s degree in social work. I provide virtual counselling to youths and adults living in Quebec, New-Brunswick and Ontario. I specialize in trauma, depression, addiction, anti-oppression, life transition, and low self-esteem. I believe that everyone has the capacity to make positive changes in their lives, and I provide a warm and safe environment where people feel empowered to find the best version of themselves.

Throughout my career, I have provided support to clients affected by war and conflicts, neglect, separation, child abuse, domestic violence, discrimination, bullying and various mental health challenges. As a therapist, I use a strength-based, and empowerment approach, which involves using empowering intervention methods to guide people toward achieving a sense of control.

Outside of my work as a therapist, I am passionate about social justice. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Social Work from the University of Ottawa. My work focuses on the intersectionality between various social categories such as race, gender, class, religion,
sexuality and ability. Through research, I look at how they all shape an individual's experiences, oppression and lack of opportunities within the society. This has allowed me to instil an intersectional approach into my role as a therapist, with evidence-based
treatments tailored to meet people’s needs.

“Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about un-becoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.” - Paul Coelho
