Robyn Carter

MSW, Intern with Psychotherapy for You Ontario

I am a Master of Social Work student in Ontario with a strong interest in supporting individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges. I believe that everyone can benefit from psychotherapy and from having an empathetic, non-judgmental space to explore life’s difficulties.

I hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a two-year Addiction Education diploma, along with over five years of experience in crisis intervention. I have supported individuals living with acute and chronic suicidal thoughts by using de-escalation, safety planning, and present-focused approaches to help them feel grounded, supported, and better able to cope during times of distress.

My approach is collaborative and client-centred, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and crisis intervention. I work alongside clients to build practical coping skills, strengthen resilience, and support meaningful change aligned with their values. I believe that by clarifying what matters most to us and allowing our values to guide our actions, we can begin to reconnect with a sense of choice and agency, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

I believe meaningful change often occurs through small, values-guided choices that support growth and flexibility, even on difficult days.
