I'm sure this may sound familiar to some of you.
I've noticed that many people are feeling lost and are suffering more than ever. Our nervous systems are frazzled, including my own. Many of us just don’t know what to do with all of this or how to bring peace or any form of balance back into our lives.
It seems we often don’t understand why we fly off the handle so easily or pull back and disassociate from family or loved ones. It's important to remember that it's not our fault.
Many of us have experienced traumatic events and don’t really think of ourselves as survivors. Bad car accidents, disconnect from family, childhood physical/emotional abuse, neglect, abandonment, sexual assault, abusive adult relationships, alcohol and drug abuse, overeating, chronic sleep issues; they can add up.
I wanted to reach out and share some thoughts on a topic that I believe affects many of us: trauma and its impact on our nervous systems.
Oftentimes, we go through life without fully recognizing the effects of past traumas, which can stem from various sources, be it prolonged exposure to stressful situations or a single, significant event. These experiences can alter our nervous systems, leading us to navigate life with a different set of responses and reactions than we might have otherwise had.
